Frequently asked questions
Unity Asset Manager is a cloud-based digital asset management (DAM) solution that streamlines how teams can upload, manage, transform, share, and access their complex real-time 3D assets.
With Unity Asset Manager, you can:
- Use a suite of tools to manage, organize and discover your assets
- Manage access to your assets with role-based access controls (RBACs)
- Integrate with popular design tools and engines such as Blender, Photoshop, Maya, Unity and more via APIs
- Reuse assets across Unity Editor projects, keeping asset dependencies
- Upload assets from disk or index files from your Unity Version Control repositories
- Store assets in Unity Cloud storage (included capacity according to your subscription), or choose Self Hosted Deployment, including private cloud and on-premises options, so data stays in your own infrastructure
- Build your own integrations with APIs and SDKs
- Use data transformation workflows to generate previews, extract 3D metadata or to generate an optimized version of large and complex models to stream at runtime on main platforms (Windows Standalone, Android, web, macOS, iOS, XR)

Yes. Unity Asset Manager is available with both the Unity Industry and Unity Studio subscriptions. Unity Industry includes the Unity Editor and provides advanced visualization, simulation, AR/VR, and interactive applications to accelerate innovation and improve workflows. Unity Studio is a no-code, web-based editor that empowers anyone within an organization to create and share in 3D.

Unity Asset Manager is engine-agnostic and anyone can get started by logging in with your Unity ID or by creating an account here.
You can also use Asset Manager with popular design tools such as Blender, Photoshop, Maya, and non-Unity game engines via APIs.
In the Asset Store, you can browse and buy third-party assets. With Unity Asset Manager, you can store and manage your own (first-party) assets.
Yes. We support role-based access control (RBAC) at the organization and project levels, enabling you to keep access to your valuable IP secure.
Organization Owners will have full access to all projects in their Organization by default.
If you’re an Organization Owner, you can invite other users, both inside and outside of your organization, to your projects. At Organisation level you can make them Asset Manager Admins, giving them full access to all projects and assets in Asset Manager. You can also assign them project roles such as Contributors, Consumers, or Viewers, giving you control over their ability to edit, download or just view assets.
Note: Your seat entitlement must match your Organization tier. Meaning if you are in an Organisation with Pro users in it, then you must have a Pro seat to access Asset Manager as any other role than that of a Viewer.
For detailed information regarding Unity Asset Manager’s role-based access controls, consult the documentation.

Yes. Unity Asset Manager offers secure, multi-tenant cloud storage, or the option for Self-Hosted Deployment via your dedicated virtual private cloud (Azure & AWS) or on-premises via a Service Provider, so data stays in your own infrastructure. Self-Hosted Deployment options integrate with Identity Access Management (IAM) systems for enterprise-level security.

You can store any files on Unity Asset Manager, but the system does not automatically generate previews for all types. Unity Asset Manager generates previews for popular 3D files types like Fbx, 3DS, OBJ, AutoCAD 3D and glTF, as well as 2D file types like JPG, PNG, GIF and SVG. See the documentation for details.
The Unity Asset Manager plugin to the Unity Editor lets you upload and share assets easily for reuse in your other projects. You can search, browse, and import content from your asset library directly in the Unity Editor. The plugin tracks changes to the imported assets to ensure you’re always working with the latest version. You can add the package (com.unity.asset-manager-for-unity) to your Unity project using Package Manager.
The Unity Asset Manager for Unity Version Control integration lets you index content from Unity Version Control repositories directly within Unity Asset Manager. Any modifications made through Unity Version Control tools will automatically synchronize with Unity Asset Manager, preventing redundant content creation within your team. You can also generate previews and attach metadata to these assets, enhancing their discoverability and facilitating reuse across various projects. To get started, simply enable the integration from the Integrations modal in the Unity Asset Manager. See documentation for details.
